On May 15th, 2024, the school counselors will be conducting classroom lessons for 8th-grade students focused on human trafficking prevention.

This prevention program is specially designed for middle school students and will promote well-being, safety, and the red flags of human trafficking. If you wish to view the curriculum, survey questions, or the recorded parent preview, click the following links: /Page/21008

If you prefer your student NOT to participate in the lesson, please fill out the opt-out form before the first lesson:

Should you choose to opt your student out, alternative activities will be provided during the human trafficking prevention lessons. All students will be provided with a physical opt-out form during their Advisory class, in English, Spanish, Farsi, and Arabic. Please submit the electronic or physical opt-out form by May 15th to Ms. Lynn, in the Counseling Center.

What is PROTECT?

       To address AB1861, AB1227, and Ed Code 51950, the Mental Health District Team will provide professional training to all staff who interact with children regularly. School Counselors and/or Therapists will provide direct instruction to students in grades 7, 8, or high school as determined by the school site. Guidance Lessons based on ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ priority standards will include skills to promote students' mental, emotional, and social health and well-being. Direct instruction will also include recognizing the prevalence, nature, and strategies to reduce the risk of human trafficking, techniques to set healthy boundaries, and how to safely seek assistance, as well as promoting a positive school climate that enhances students' feelings of belonging, and connection to the school community.
